Club Purpose:
This club stems from a concern to take action in making our world a better place and to counter
apathy in our school, community, and country. The purpose of the club is to first spread an awareness regarding some of the
tragedies taking place in Africa. We sponsor schools and thus fight the use of children soldiers, child laborers, and the
AIDS epidemic through increased opportunities for education. Our club is currently working with two non-profit organizations
who are well established in their efforts to aid Africa. (Free the Children and Invisible Children)
"Free the Children" is the largest children helping children network in the world. It is a
Canadian based non-profit, which centers much of its' work in rural Kenya. We have adopted a village raising funds
to build a school in a rural African community. Our dream is to send a group of students at the end of school year 07-08
to help oversee what we have accomplished.
We have greatly supported another non-profit, "Invisible Children", and continure
to do whatever is within our power to help eradicate the use of children soldiers (particularly in Uganda). We have
sponsored a school in northern Uganda, Gulu HS, that allows vulnerable children a place of not only refuge, but also
learning.
**As we enter our 2nd year, AIA will provide funds for an AIDS orphanage in Uganda, a
campaign to stop the genocide in Darfur, Sudan, and help with efforts to limit world hunger (Africa).
Club Slogan:
"No more waiting, It's time for "Action in Africa."
